SEPTEMBER HIKE

TARANTULA WALK - Mount Diablo State Park

Saturday, September 16th, 2017

5:00pm - 8:00pm

Distance - short hike: .5 - 1 mile roundtrip

Because the fall is an amazing time to be outside and observe some of the many wonderful happenings of life.  Male California tarantulas (Aphonopelma iodius) at this time are heading out to search for female tarantulas who are holed up in burrows and holes in the ground waiting for a male to come along to mate with.  We get to observe the male's journey to these burrows.  As they walk along the hill sides and roads we will wander the trails in search of these magnificent arachnids and other inhabitants of Mount Diablo State Park.
